Obituary for Kurt Darwin Knief

Kurt Darwin Knief, 62, died on June 12, 2020, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, KS. He was born on April 19, 1958 to Ellis Arnold and Zelma Louise (Morris) Knief at Minneola, KS. Kurt was a member of the Sublette High School class of 1976. He married Mary Katz on December 12, 1996 at the Sublette United Methodist Church.

He is survived by a daughter, Kadilyn Knoop of Sangkhlaburi, Thailand; a son, Kalin Bird of Manhattan, KS; step-daughters, Alicia Katz of Wichita, KS, and Megan Katz of Wichita, KS; step-sons, Donavon Owston of Elm Creek, NE, Jeremy Katz of Loveland, CO, Kelly Katz of Brandon, SD; fifteen step-grandchildren; and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Knief; and his parents.

A memorial gathering was held in Kurt’s yard on Sunday, June 14, 2020. Pastor Eddie Pennington lead a prayer of comfort while friends shared memories and food.
